Spring Collection "Captivating Night" Preview

Just wanted to give you another small peek at my Spring collection!

Inspiration

I'm so excited about what's to come! I am planning a photo shoot for all items the beginning of March so I hope you're looking forward to seeing everything!

I am going with an edgy and chic look this season. Perhaps colors that may be darker then the typical Spring looks but I'm not a "typical" person and my designs reflect that.

Pierce Me

So I have had my nose pierced for a while but I've wanted to get a ring for it because I usually like that look. Yesterday I decided to finally get a ring. It took forever to get the stud out and after some blood and tears I got it out and got the ring in. I'm not sure if I like it...what do you think?

It's a bit bigger than I was hoping for. I really just wanted it to hug my nose but it sticks out a little. I'm not really sure if I like it but I know I won't be taking it out for a while because it hurt so much to get in!

On a different note, I have been filling out more applications to shows upstate, downstate, and all over NY state! Fall is coming quickly, I can't believe how fast summer went by! It makes me kind of sad but it also means the smell and color of all the lovely leaves here in NY state. As well as fresh made apple butter and apple pie! There's nothing like a delicious crunchy Empire apple!

Chicks Along the Canal

In Little Falls, NY some wonderful chicks put on an amazing show yesterday. I had one of the best times I have had at a show in a long time. Probably the best time EVER! Sold a lot of items and even got interviewed for the Utica OD which is a paper a lot of folks read! I didn't expect that! Check out the story online. It's also in the actual paper as well.

The chicks also put on a Reclaimed Fashion Exhibit showing that you can find fashionable items from secondhand stores. This was the handmade dress I presented:

Fabric Dyeing How To.

I recently made an interesting top out of a long sleeve turtle neck shirt but I was unhappy with the color of it. SO I decided to attempt to dye it. I've never dyed fabric before but I have a feeling I'll be doing it a whole lot more!

Before:

The color is alright but it's a bit too Fred Flintstone.

So the process of dyeing is a lot longer than I thought. You have to be sure to pre-wash the fabric to rid of any stains, etc.
You will need boiling water, hot tap water, salt, a bucket, a stirring stick, and obviously your chosen dye.

Soak your fabric or garment in cold water.

When water boils pour it into a glass measuring cup and add dye. It's also a good idea to have a PIG timer.

While dye is dissolving fill a large bucket with hot tap water and salt. Stir with your awesome stick and then pour dye and boiling water into the bucket.

Stir around a bit to mix it all together then gently lower your fabric or garment into the bucket, making sure it isn't twisted. (Unless that's the look your going for.) Next is the longest part. After putting the garment into the bucket you have to stir it around for at least 30 minutes, depending on how dark your original fabric is and how dark you want it to be. You could be stirring for up to a whole hour!! I stirred mine for about 45 minutes.

After stirring for how ever long, rinse the garment in hot water then gradually rinse in cold until the water runs clear.
Then air dry or put it in the dryer to see the finished result!

It didn't exactly turn bright teal but I'm happy with it. Much less Flintstony. Haha!

Of course after seeing how the dye works I wanted to dye more..

New camera, new photos!

My lovely and wonderful mother surprised me yesterday with a new camera. It's awesome!! Check out some of the great photos my best friend took for me!

Those are just a few. I love my new camera though!! It has all different filters and setting to play with! Once I get better at it I'm sure I'll be posting more photos!

Kickin' it Old School.

Today I decided to write a post about some old school stuff!! First of all an old photo of me. This was taken while I was making a semi formal dress in 2005.

That photo was only in the middle 2000's. But the decades worth remembering are the 80's and 90's. Since I was so young in the 80's I don't exactly remember the fashion, however I can look back at see what everyone was wearing. Stuff like this:

I think some of the fashions from both time periods are coming back though. I see a lot of over-sized tees and off the shoulder tops worn with leggings. I love it all.

Rotterdam Mall Weekend Fun.

Hello all my lovely followers!

Mini Photo Shoot

Snow day

Hiya all you lovely people!

Today I have been sewing the new tags on all the clothing! It took longer than I hoped. However, I did take some time to enjoy the foot of snow we received today! I don't recommend playing outside in 30 degrees F weather in a tank top and stockings...

Research shopping.

Good morning all!

Sorry we didn't post yesterday, we got very sidetracked. It was a pretty sunny day so it was a nice change from blustery Tuesday.

We decided to do some shopping. So we went to my local mall..(the only mall in the area, and it's about a half hour away...I live in a very small town). Anyway, we wandered in and out of all the best stores just getting an idea of what is in style this season. We got a lot of ideas and I'm excited to put those ideas to action!

I also got a cute pair of sequence shorts that I'm super happy about. I've never really worn sequence anything but I want to branch out a little. Em took a cute photo of me with them on in the dressing room!

Also, last night we took some extremely silly photos with our new double finger rings! (which we decided to test out since we keep seeing folks wearing them).
I hope you're ready to laugh.

We were very overtired and giggling wayy too much about my strange faces.

We did take a sort of "normal" photo too.

....as "normal" as we could be at least. Haha

Overall, it was a really great day yesterday, we needed the laughs. I think we've been too serious for the last few days so it was really nice to just chill out and laugh.

Today we do plan to do a lot of work. We are finally going to finish inventory, we had to pick up more tags yesterday so we're ready to finish up..so we can keep making more that we have to inventory. Haha. I also think we will be doing more work on the website. We will see. Anyway, I'm off!!

A cold morning...

This morning looks terribly cold outside. Emily and I plan to get some supplies from the craft store today but looking at all the snow blowing around outside I'm not exactly excited about this plan. We are also getting a huge donation of fabric from a family member today. We don't even know what everything looks like, or even what type of fabric it is but we're pretty excited!

I'm watching the weather channel right now and it makes me so disappointed...I just want it to be summer, it's been cold and snowy for TOO long in my opinion. Oh well we can't do much about that.

Moving on....Em and I did a bit of sewing last night. She was making a romper and I was making a vest. Neither one of us finished yet but I'm sure we will today.

Well my loves, I am going to finish my coffee (my first cup at least) and start the day!

Working hard!

Yesterday Emily and I were busy with trying to figure out the .com site. We didn't get all that far but with an entire week ahead of us I'm confident we can at least get started on building it. Today we plan to finish inventory and hopefully do a little sewing.

It's becoming very clear that a small business is a lot of work but we want to do this SO bad and I know we can do it, we just need to keep pressing on. With your support I know we can make it! So please, keep letting us know how we're doing and encourage us to keep going! We appreciate all of you and will be sure to keep you updated every step of the way!

IT'S FRIDAY!!!

Emily is coming today! Woot woot! I'm sure we're going to be super busy this weekend/week..however long she stays!

Working on the websites. More applications, inventory, photos! AHHH it's gonna be great though! Hopefully we will get tons accomplished!

I made a vest yesterday..I think vests are my favorite thing to make. They are SO cute and versatile. I'm sure I'll get photos up at some point. I hope you are all checking out our facebook page though. There's a lot to look at there. Not to mention the senseofashion site which makes it easy to purchase whatever you want!

Blade sharpener!

I got my new rotary cutter blade sharpener in the mail today! I am SO excited about it. There's nothing like really sharp stuff to cut fabric with! Haha. OHH the enjoyment I get out of cutting stuff! Haha!!

That's what it is! Woooo I've already sharpened my cutter and have been just basically cutting scraps. It's really pretty fun!
